“I Am Not Alone”
Appendix 4 – Baptism into Jesus’ Name
Water baptism into Jesus’ name produces results and performs functions.
- By being buried with Christ we participate in His death, burial, and resurrection (the gospel) (Romans 6:3–4).
- By being baptized in Jesus’ name (buried with Christ) we receive remission of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16).
- Being baptized in Jesus’ name means putting on Christ (Galatians 3:27).
Other Scriptural injunctions for water baptism in the name of Jesus besides Acts 2:38 are listed below:
Six Witnesses
I will introduce the “six witnesses” with the following poem.
I have six honest serving men,
They taught me all I knew,
Their names? What and Why and How,
And When and Where and Who
-Author unknown
The Scriptural counterpart for the concept found in the poem is 2 Corinthians 13:1: “In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.” I will let these six witnesses—What, Why, How, When, Where, and Who—defend baptism in the name of Jesus.
